About the Work
ART on THE MART partnered with the Art Institute of Chicago to bring captivating portraits by contemporary American artist Bisa Butler to the 2.5-acre façade of THE MART. A selection of Butler’s artworks, accompanied by custom sound provided by the artist, extended the artist’s vision onto one of the most iconic architectural buildings in Chicago.
ART on THE MART’s projection coincided with the Art Institute’s exhibition Bisa Butler: Portraits.
About the Artist
Bisa Butler is an award winning African American textile artist. She is known for her vibrantly stunning larger than life sized quilted portraits that captivate viewers around the world.
I hope that my work can inform and educate people and also speak to people’s sensibility of looking into each person as they pass as a real human being who deserves respect and recognition, just the same way as you’d look at a piece of artwork.
