Charles Atlas returns to ART on THE MART

Coinciding with the public installation of Charles Atlas’ multi-media installation The Years (2018) at the Art Institute of Chicago (AIC), ART on THE MART will reprise the artist’s projection The Geometry of Thought across the façade of THE MART as part of our winter 2023 program that begins nightly at 7.30pm CT. The Geometry of Thought will return for a limited run from Tuesday, November 28 until Tuesday, December 5, 2023. 

The Geometry of Thought originally debuted during ART on THE MART's fall 2019 season and was reprised during the fall 2023 season in celebration of the platform's fifth anniversary. The site-specific work features a characteristic combination of abstract shapes and numerals unfolding over eight chapters, animating and exploring the iconic structure and architecture of THE MART.

Beginning December 2 until spring 2024, The Art Institute of Chicago will have The Years (2018), a recently acquired work by Atlas, on view in its permanent galleries. The six-channel video installation presents scrolling excerpts of Atlas' films, all playing at the same time.
